| Applications | Acetaminophen-cysteine is a metabolite of Acetaminophen (A161220) and a serum biomarker of acetaminophen exposure (1,2). Acetaminophen-cysteine can be used to identify acetaminophen-induced acute liver failure when standard testing is inconclusive. Acetaminophen is oxidized by cytochrome P450 to a reactive metabolite N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), which can react with cysteine residues of hepatic proteins to yield Acetaminophen-cysteine (3). |
